About this employee offboarding process flowchart

Offboarding is onboarding in reverse, with higher stakes: an account left active after someone leaves is a security risk. This flowchart branches on departure type so high-risk exits get immediate access removal while planned departures get a proper handover.

Pair it with the employee onboarding flowchart to cover the full employee lifecycle.

Step by step

  1. Confirm. HR confirms the last day, final pay and benefits details.
  2. Branch. Involuntary or high-risk departures have access removed immediately.
  3. Handover. Planned departures transfer knowledge and open work first.
  4. Remove access. IT disables accounts on the last day.
  5. Close. Equipment is returned, an exit interview held and records closed.

How to make it in flow-chart.io

  1. Start from the example. Edit the text in the generator box above so it names your own offboarding checklist, then press Generate. The free preview needs no sign-up.
  2. Add the branches. Add the decision points that matter for you, for example remote employee shipping equipment? or contractor?. Each decision becomes a diamond with labeled outcomes.
  3. Assign owners. Save the diagram to the editor (free account) and rename steps to show who does what: HR, manager, IT and facilities.
  4. Share or export. Share a read-only view link: people with the link can view the diagram but not edit it. Downloads as PNG, SVG or PDF are part of Flow Pro (see pricing).
